Aapam

Aapam is a type of Indian rice cake with at least a 2 inch wide lace-like edge and a soft spongy center. Pronounced as “up-poam” (rhyming with ‘foam’), at least according to my family and the food stall vendors I buy it from back home, it’s spelling differs from one shop to the next. It is usually wrapped in brown paper with a generous amount of red sugar doled on to it.  Read the rest

Kuih Dadar

Ramadan, the fasting month for Muslims will soon be here. What would please me the most, of course, is  Read the rest

Lemon Salmon in Curry Sauce

I didn’t know that there’s so much debate about whether we should eat wild salmon or farmed salmon. Salmon was something I ate only when I went to the buffet dinner at Cafe Vienna @ Royal Plaza on Scotts (Orchard Road) on special occasions - birthdays, anniversaries and occasions which had a  nostalgic feel to them. Now I believe it is no longer called Cafe Vienna but The Carousel. That was when I was in Singapore. Now, I cook salmon when I feel we need a break from the chicken, meat, prawn and tilapia diet. Unknkowingly, this choice of making salmon dishes a once a fortnight meal could be a healthy decision.  Read the rest
